Oxford Vaughan Ambassador and professional racing driver Oliver Webb caused a stir around Dubai on Tuesday 12th January, in the lead up to the 24 Hour Dubai Race at the Dubai Autodrome.
Oliver teamed up with GoPro and Uber Dubai to offer complimentary rides in a 6.5L, V12, 690 BHP Lamborghini Aventador around the Gulf city. Uber customers were alerted to a special “Supercar” option in the app and, by entering a promo code, they unlocked an Uber ride like no other with the British racing driver and current 24 Hours of Dubai champion.
Oliver appeared at Uber customers' collection points in full race gear behind the wheel of the 6.5L, 690HP, V12 Lamborghini Aventador, wearing his Oxford Vaughan Monza sunglasses. Passengers were then treated to a cruise around Dubai Marina, JBR, Emirates Hills and the iconic Palm Jumeirah.
The surprised passengers were filmed on GoPro cameras rigged around the supercar and their reactions will be edited into a video to be released over the coming days. The event was widely shared on Twitter, with the delighted Uber customers that were lucky enough to have Oliver pick them up in the Lamborghini posting about their experiences online.
The stunt was part of a campaign designed to build awareness around the upcoming Dubai 24 Hours Race. For Oliver, the upcoming race offers him the chance to defend his crown as the current 24 Hours of Dubai champion with Team Black Falcon. The 24 Hours of Dubai race follows a great start to 2016 for Oliver, after finishing third place in the Asian Le Mans Series in Thailand last weekend.
“We were really excited to work with Oli and bring this amazing and unique experience to our riders in Dubai. Having the Dubai 24 Hour race champion representing Uber was awesome and we wish Oli the best of luck defending his crown this weekend!” – Chris Free, General Manager, Uber UAE
“I had a great time surprising the people of Dubai. It’s not everyday you jump on your Uber App to find a supercar picking you up so it was amazing to see the reactions on the faces of the people I collected. I can’t wait to see the final video. Thank you to both GoPro and Uber for their support and my attention now moves to this weekend where I hope to win at the Dubai Autodrome.” – Oliver Webb
Oxford Vaughan would like to wish Oliver the best of luck in defending his crown in the upcoming 24 Hours of Dubai race. To keep up to date with the latest updates from Oliver as he competes in the 24 Hour Series, follow him on Twitter and Instagram.
