Oxford Vaughan is pleased to share the news that their Brand Ambassador Seb Morris will be racing in the GP3 Series next season.
Seb has moved a step closer to achieving his long-held dream of racing in F1, after finalising a deal with top team Status Grand Prix, to graduate into GP3 - a supporting series for Formula 1 - for the 2015 motor racing season.
The 19-year-old from Marford, who is part of the prestigious MSA Team UK programme and the FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy, steps into GP3 off the back of an excellent first season at European level last year.
Going on to star on his GP3 test debut with Status at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi back in November, Seb and his management team have since been working hard behind the scenes to secure the funding to make the leap onto the F1 support package.
Determined to make a strong impact during his rookie campaign with Silverstone-based Status, the two-time McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist is absolutely relishing the prospect of lining-up on the grid for the opening round of the season at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain on 9th/10th May.
“I always wanted to be in GP3 this year with Status, the team wanted me as well so it’s fantastic we’ve put the deal together”, said an elated Seb, “I definitely feel ready for GP3 and I believe I can compete with the best, I wouldn’t be out there if I didn’t feel that. Status was always the obvious choice, everyone bonded quickly when I tested last November and the atmosphere instantly clicked.
“I’m really looking forward to the first official test at Estoril in a couple of weeks, I’ve been preparing hard over the last few months and doing a lot of sim assessments so I’m ready. The team has shown it can win races and that’s ultimately where we intend to be, winning races and championships.”
Seb will join the rest of the GP3 Series entry at Estoril in Portugal on 18th/19th March, for the first of three official pre-season tests. Valencia and Barcelona in Spain are the other two venues, hosting GP3 Series testing on 9th/10th April and 22nd/23rd April respectively.
The 18 round championship, which features identical Dallara cars powered by a 3.4-litre engine producing 400bhp, begins in early May and culminates at the end of November. Seb will have the chance to race in front of his ‘home’ crowd at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit over the weekend 4th/5th July. Live television coverage of the full season will be screened in the UK on Sky Sports F1.
Everyone at Oxford Vaughan would like to congratulate Seb on making this step up to GP3, and can’t wait to support their Brand Ambassador in this new chapter of his career.
